Project Overview

In late 2024, SUNPAL ESS deployed a 500 kW / 1,075 kWh high-voltage containerized battery energy storage system at an events and conference centre in Mbabane, Eswatini. The all-in-one 20-foot unit, featuring LFP cells, advanced BMS, fire suppression, and quiet operation below 68 dB(A), operates in both on-grid and off-grid modes.

Paired with a 500 kWp solar array, the system helps maintain business continuity during load shedding, mitigates cable-theft-related power disruptions, and helps reduce electricity costs through peak-demand management, supporting the venue's green energy goals.

Challenge & Solution

Challenges

  • Unreliable grid supply and load shedding could disrupt conferences and venue operations
  • Cable theft created additional risks of unexpected power interruptions
  • High peak demand increased electricity costs during periods of heavy facility operation
  • The venue required reliable backup power without excessive equipment noise

SUNPAL ESS Solutions

  • 500 kW / 1,075 kWh high-voltage BESS for reliable backup and energy shifting
  • On-grid and off-grid operation for flexible response to grid interruptions
  • 500 kWp solar PV integration to increase renewable energy utilization
  • Low-noise operation below 68 dB(A), suitable for an active conference venue

Feedback from Head

"We used to worry about power interruptions during events. Since the battery system was installed, we have been able to keep essential loads running when the grid goes down. The system has also been quiet enough for normal operations at the venue."
