Project Overview

In May 2026, a commercial and industrial energy storage system was commissioned at the WIN WIN Industrial Park in Malawi. The 500 kW / 900 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) energy storage system, featuring Megarevo MPS500 hybrid PCS and EMS technology, was developed by a local EPC partner working with SUNPALESS and fully self-financed by the client. On-site installation by a certified local team was completed in eight weeks.

The system primarily provides peak shaving, backup power and solar self-consumption for the park's factory facilities. It helps stabilise local feeder voltage, reduce demand charges during peak periods, maximise the use of on-site solar PV, and reduce reliance on diesel generation during power interruptions and high-demand periods. The system cuts diesel generator runtime by over 70% and avoids approximately 180 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, supporting more reliable and cost-effective electricity supply for industrial operations.

Challenge & Solution

Challenges

  • High evening electricity demand increased peak-related operating costs
  • Unstable feeder voltage affected reliable commercial operations
  • On-site solar generation risked curtailment during low-load periods
  • Diesel generators required frequent operation to maintain power reliability

SUNPAL ESS Solutions

  • 500kW / 900kWh LFP storage system for peak demand management
  • Megarevo MPS500 hybrid PCS for coordinated multi-source power control
  • Intelligent EMS maximising solar self-consumption without curtailment
  • Battery backup reducing diesel generator runtime by over 70%
