Project Overview
An industrial manufacturing facility in Valdorros (Burgos), Spain required a battery energy storage system to time-shift surplus generation from its existing 400 kW solar PV array, arbitrage volatile evening peak tariffs under the PVPC market, reduce curtailment losses, and provide uninterrupted backup for critical loads such as production lines and cold storage. The project supported Spain’s broader renewable energy integration and self-consumption objectives under RD 244/2019.
SUNPAL ESS was selected for its modular all-in-one cabinets, advanced EMS platform, and proven AC-coupled hybrid performance. The 1 MWh / 500 kW containerised BESS was designed, supplied, and commissioned as a behind-the-meter system delivering reliable daily arbitrage and operational continuity.
Challenge & Solution
Challenges
- Surplus solar generation exceeded daytime factory consumption
- Volatile evening tariffs increased grid electricity purchase costs
- PV curtailment reduced the value of available solar generation
- Critical production loads required reliable backup during grid outages
SUNPAL ESS Solutions
- 1MWh battery stores surplus solar for peak-period consumption
- 500kW PCS enables rapid charging and discharging for energy arbitrage
- Intelligent EMS optimizes PV, battery, grid, and factory loads
- Backup power supports critical production and cold-storage loads
