Project Overview
In late 2024, SUNPAL ESS deployed a 500 kW / 1,075 kWh high-voltage containerized battery energy storage system at an events and conference centre in Mbabane, Eswatini. The all-in-one 20-foot unit, featuring LFP cells, advanced BMS, fire suppression, and quiet operation below 68 dB(A), operates in both on-grid and off-grid modes.
Paired with a 500 kWp solar array, the system helps maintain business continuity during load shedding, mitigates cable-theft-related power disruptions, and helps reduce electricity costs through peak-demand management, supporting the venue's green energy goals.
Challenge & Solution
Challenges
- Unreliable grid supply and load shedding could disrupt conferences and venue operations
- Cable theft created additional risks of unexpected power interruptions
- High peak demand increased electricity costs during periods of heavy facility operation
- The venue required reliable backup power without excessive equipment noise
SUNPAL ESS Solutions
- 500 kW / 1,075 kWh high-voltage BESS for reliable backup and energy shifting
- On-grid and off-grid operation for flexible response to grid interruptions
- 500 kWp solar PV integration to increase renewable energy utilization
- Low-noise operation below 68 dB(A), suitable for an active conference venue
